Lover of food, buttons, family and ink

To Ma & Pa

I wasn’t sure about writing this post, because quite frankly I didn’t know where to start.

Family, what defines that word? In the dictionary it’s defined as a group consisting of two parents and their children living together as a unit, all descendants of a common ancestor.

To me family is defined as a collection of people related or not that put up with all the crazy stuff that’s going on, through thick and thin, and even when their not around anymore still seem to make you happy, listen to you, and just amaze the hell out of you.

It amazes me how after 29 years I still have one. I would be a shell of who I am now if it wasn’t for those special people.

I just want to say a big thanks to the main stars of the show my mum and dad. Without you guys I wouldn’t be here, I wouldn’t of made it this far, yes we argue and I drive you nuts but you drive me nuts too! But when all is said and done I know I can always count on you both.

Dad your my papa bear, always there for your little girl with bear hugs to stop the tears.

Mum your my beautiful mummy, who knows what to say and when I don’t know what to say back can shove the best cake, with chocolate buttons on might I add, in front of me to shut me up and make me smile like I’ve won the lottery.

I love you both more than you can imagine, your my heroes and always will be.

Dystonia, well that’s just fan-dabby- doozy!

Let me take you on a little journey to my impending diagnosis!

So this whole thing started more than a year and half ago, it started with just a bit of a stiff neck just before I went to bed.

Well let’s just say if I knew what my body had in store for me in those next few hours I probably would of run for the hills -if I could have.

I woke up half an hour later as the pain was increasing in my neck, and laying down only made it worse.

It got to 2:30 am and I finally gave up on sleep, I went down stairs made a fort of pillows around me and tried to drift off to sleep… However everytime I did I was jolted awake by sharp stabbing pains in my neck shoulder and back.

I sat there at 4:30 in the morning sobbing, I think in total with all the 5 minutes here and there I managed to get thirty minutes sleep.

I went to A&E who where about as useful as a chocolate tea pot. I went to Medoc who again prescribed me paracetamol… Yes that wonderful little pill called paracetamol, at this point I screamed in the doctors face and begged for sleeping pills, well any kind of pills really I was ready for a way out, ready for an escape of any description.

Lord if someone would of told me licking a lizard and rubbing onions in my eyes would work I would of done it.

It was absolute agony and only lessened after two weeks of complete rest.

These episodes have come and gone over the last year now – I am currently going though one now, although I am getting used to the pain and the way my neck twists and pulls to one side, new symptoms leave me baffled.

Sometimes I get numbness on my back in patches, sometimes I can’t talk properly or get my words out, my jaw aches and chatters quite often when my neck plays up, I get pins and needles in my arms and my motor skills in my right hand go to shit when my neck hurts.

There are tonnes of other symptoms I get both when I know it’s starting again and when it’s getting worse – loss of concentration, headaches, lower back pain, and a completely tensed back/neck/shoulder.

I never even knew what this horrible horrible disease (not sure what else to name it!) was until three weeks ago.

I’m trying gabapentin along with anti sickness drugs and some good old morphine checked in for good measure!

Let’s hope the hospital can get the diagnoses correct this time round, the tables seem to be working sort of.

I’ll keep you guys updated when I know more, but for now chin up, chest out and fuck what everyone else thinks 🙂

Peace out!

Galway Girl – Steve Earle

If this tune doesn’t cheer you up I don’t know what will!

Days off, shopping and drugs… Lots and lots of drugs… (Prescription drugs!)

So I had some holiday booked this week for Thursday and Friday, which was going to be awesome with the weekend off too!

Or so I thought…

I woke up Thursday morning feeling fine, so we got up got dressed had the famous franchise breakfast which include copious amounts of sausage muffins and then we toodled our way to The Asford outlet, now I don’t know about you but the Yankee candle store there is amazing, and so cheap too!

So we get there and stop off for drinks first as the little peabug wasn’t feeling to great and needed something sugary.

Then we went to the amazing Yankee candle shop! I bent down to pick up a jar candle and boom! My back gave out and locked up along with my neck. What a great start to the day/long weekend.

So we bought a few things… Mainly nice smelling candles and melts to cheer me up, but I couldn’t carry on much longer so we when to Canterbury to go see my parents which is where I was going to stay the night in preparation for my hospital appointment the next day.

My back and neck where screwed, I was in so much pain and exhausted. When it goes I can’t concentrate, I can’t focus and the only thing I want to do is sleep providing I can get comfy.

Let me explain further – the doctors don’t know what’s wrong with me, although they are now treating me as if I have dystonia, which is an awful thing to have, I cried when I looked it up. Imagine tensing your muscles constantly with no break all day, yea that’s pretty much what happens to my shoulder, neck and back muscles. I can’t untense them, the only thing I can do is wait it out and take lots and lots of pain killers and muscle relaxers.

I had an appointment on Friday morning at the hospital to hopefully get a diagnosis but I then got told by the consultant what I have wrong with me is out of his field of doctoring, great! So I left with a broken heart and even more tensed up muscles due to being stressed which brings it on.

I called the doctor and managed to get another appointment that day and was given gaba, morphine and anti sickness drugs.

It’s now Saturday my back has loosened thanks to the pills, but my shoulder and neck are still quite tense.

I want to cry, I don’t want this. The gaba pills make me feel floaty which is good and bad, I can’t concentrate still and I feel a bit wobbly from it. My motor skills fell a bit out of whack and my legs are hurting too.

I’m hoping I get my diagnosis soon, but in the mean time I’m going to light some of my nice smelling candles (thank you Yankee!) and try and relax!

Three Little Birds – Bob Marley

This is a tune to get you feeling on top of the world and is irresistible to dance to.

This is mine and my peabugs go to tune if we want a dance, believe it or not but she’s a huge Bob Marley fan and she’s only 5! I don’t know why or how but ever since Buffalo Soldier came on the radio a few years back she fell in love with the legend.

Strange Magic – Electric Light Orchestra
I came across this song while watching the film Strange Magic with my little peabug.

It’s a really catchy song, and I recommend a listen if you fancy something nice and fuzzy to listen to 🙂

Homemade Carbonara… Kinda… For under £4!

This is one of my family favourites and also gives me a chance to use up left overs from spag bol – courgettes and mushrooms.

This may not be the healthiest dish but it’s good to indulge once in a while!

You will need:

1 egg

150ml double cream

1 handful of Parmesan cheese

2 courgettes

6-8 rashers of bacon

4-5 mushrooms

Penne pasta

Cook some spaghetti in a pot.

While it is cooking mix together the cream, egg and the Parmesan (leaving a little left to sprinkle on top for added flavour) in a separate bowl.

Chop the bacon up into small pieces.

Chop the mushrooms into chunks.

Quarter the courgettes and cut out the middle where the seeds are, then cut into diagonal pieces like the penne pasta.

Fry the bacon and courgettes until golden, then add the chopped mushrooms.

Drain the pasta leaving a tiny bit of water in the pot to loosen it.

Add the pasta back to the pot, mix in the bacon, mushrooms and courgettes.

Gradually add the egg mixture and keep stirring off the heat as the heat from the pasta will cook the egg.

Serve with a sprinkle of Parmesan and dig in!

Tuna Pasta Bake for £3.48!

So if your anything like me and have a family to feed but the monies just aren’t rolling in like they used to here’s a good recipe for a yummy meal that’s sure to fill those little tummy’s!

Shopping list:

2 x tinned tuna (58p per tin)

1 x tinned sweetcorn (35p)

Milk (£1)

Colmans tuna pasta bake mix (66p)

Pasta (31p)

A handful or two of grated cheese

1 packet of crisps

Now all of the above I purchased from Morrisons, yes they may be the cheapest version of what you can buy but it really doesn’t matter as its all going to be mixed up and it tastes amazing still 🙂

I havnt included the price of the cheese or crisps as I had that in my larder already but if you don’t the it shouldn’t cost more than a couple of ££’s

All I do is follow the recipe on the back of the mix pack and bing batta boom! One amazing dish with a bit left over for lunch the next day!

So give it a try it’s cheap, quick, easy and delicious!

I definitely recommend this mix by Colmans, the taste is awesome and the price is so reasonable – no fancy ingredients and easy to understand instructions!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 – I give it 5 stars!
